Whetstone Fire was started in 1979 by the community to address the need for wildfire suppression. Originally a volunteer force, the community was outgrowing the capabilities of its fire district. It wasn’t until 1996 that Whetstone Fire became a career agency to address not only fire suppression, but also the medical needs of the community. What started off as a passion for service has turned into something much bigger. Now, Whetstone Fire is now one of the premier fire agencies in Cochise County.
