INTERNSHIP
Why you should become an intern with Whetstone Fire…
Being an intern with Whetstone Fire provides you with the opportunity to get real-life experience within the fire service. As an intern your only job is to learn. You will be shown the basics of all of our apparatuses and be issued a set of firefighting PPE to become familiar with. You will be participating in ride-alongs as well as station maintenance. This position only grants you the opportunity to watch and learn what the life of a first responder is truly like. This program requires 24 hours of training a month to retain intern status. Our interns are given the opportunity to be sponsored through EMT school and Fire 1&2 academy and eventually be offered a paid position within the district, contingent on completion of the program. This position is not a paid position and does not include participation in actual firefighting, rescue, or medical operations, unless certification and proficiency allow.
